Historic Main Street

Elizabeth’s Main Street is the reason to come: a compact run of storefronts from the railroad years, now full of hat makers, antique rooms, a brewery and a coffee house. The Town has worked at it deliberately — a preservation ordinance and Historic Advisory Board in 1998, the 1882 Section House restored in 2002, interpretive plaques along the street in 2012, Certified Local Government status in 2015, and membership in the Colorado Main Street Program. Start at the 1907 First National Bank at 188 South Main and read the plaques as you walk.
The Main Street program’s Depot Parking Lot at 455 East Spruce Street, announced as open in September 2025, has more than 100 free spaces for downtown shopping, events and the parks and trails; the program recommends reaching it by Elbert or Banner Street.
The preservation dates were read on the Historic Advisory Board’s site on 30 October 2026, and the Depot lot on the Elizabeth Main Street Program’s post of 10 September 2025 the same day.
